Airtel Africa’s Mobile Money Units has generated $994 million in revenues as at year ended March 2025, which is 29.70 percent higher in constant currency than 2024’s $837 million, according to data from the company’s website.
The constant currency mobile money revenue growth was driven by revenue growth in both East Africa and Francophone Africa of 31.9 percent and 22.2 percent, respectively. In Nigeria, we continue to focus on customer acquisitions with 1.7 million active customers registered for mobile money services at the end of March 2025.
The constant currency revenue growth of 29.9 percent was driven by both our customer base growth of 17.3 percent and mobile money ARPU growth of 11.4 percent.
The expansion of the company’s distribution network, particularly its multi brand agent network, supported the customer base growth of 17.3 percent. The mobile money ARPU growth of 11.4 percent was primarily driven by transaction value per customer growth of 13.3 percent in constant currency, to $273 per customer per month.
Mobile money revenue contributed 20.1 percent of total Group revenue during the year ended 31 March 2025.
Airtel Africa mulls to list its Money Unit, Airtel Money, in the first half of 2026 as the telco giant seeks to strengthen its market share on the continent, taking advantage of a fast growing population that craves for data consumption.
