The Dangote Petroleum refinery has clarified that over 3,000 Nigerians are still employed at the Refinery following the sack of a small number over what the company termed ‘sabotage’.
The Refinery said in a statement that it was undergoing reorganization which was not arbitrary, but had become necessary to safeguard the refinery from repeated acts of sabotage which raised safety concerns and affected operational efficiency.
“Over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively in our Petroleum Refinery, at present. Only a very small number of staff were affected, as we continue to recruit Nigerian talent through our various graduate trainee programmed and experienced hire recruitment process,” the Dangote Refinery said.
“We recognize and uphold internationally accepted labour principles, including the right of every worker to freely decide whether or not to join a union.”
News broke earlier today that the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery had terminated the employment of its Nigerian workers.
According to a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, the company said the decision was taken as part of a “total re-organisation” of the plant following reported cases of sabotage in different units of the refinery.
