Nigerian Movie Production Jumps 477% as Lagos, Onitsha top Locations

The number of movies produced in Nigeria jumped by 477 percent to 2,599 at the end of 2020, from 450 in 2017.

This is according to the latest data on the industry by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In the first quarter of 2021, a total of 416 movies were produced, which was up slightly from the 406 produced in Q1, 2020, but down from the 903 produced in the fourth quarter (Q4), 2020.

Lagos (149 movies), Onitsha (140 movies) and Abuja (107 movies) led the locations for movie production in the first quarter of 2021, according to the NBS data.

The data is provided by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and verified and validated by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
