16 Social Innovators Go Home with 500K Each in Adamawa

Must read

The British Council and the Northeast Humanitarian Innovation Hub awarded 16 Adamawa youngsters a total of 500 thousand Naira (N500, 000) apiece to develop their innovative ideas that either confront insecurity through their organized project; Youth Hack Challenge (YHC).

The Humanitarian Innovation Hub is a social innovation center that highlights the potential of collaboration and community participation from concept to implementation.

The ability of the Innovators to solve societal challenges with an “out-of-the-box” approach inspired by human-centered design thinking is what sets them apart as a social impact-driven innovation environment.

According to Mary Igbazua, Project Lead at Humanitarian Innovation Foundation, the “Idea pitch for the youth Hack challenge” is a program supported by the British Council and the MCN as part of the managing conflict in Nigeria fund, which is looking for new ways to address security concerns in Adamawa State.

The “out-of-the-box” approach is to create an ecosystem of young people who are passionate about community development, entrepreneurship, security, and advocating peace.

The project has given young people the skills, experience, and opportunities they need to be self-sufficient, connect with the market, and establish and build successful businesses.

Gyara KayanKa TRICYCLE QR SECURITY (Insecurity)

The shilla boys are known for using tricycles to perpetrate crimes like armed robbery, snatching and pick-pocketing of valuables from their victims. My idea is the process of using QR codes placed on each tricycle to gain relevant information of tricycle riders you are about to board.

This information can be shared with family and friends, thereby knowing where to look or trace a culprit when a crime has been committed against you on the tricycle.

DANGER AND EMERGENCY LOCATION REPORT AND TRACKING SYSTEM: (Security)

My Project is aimed at tackling the issue of Insecurity, a case study of Shilah Gang.

Data of tricycles will be collected. This record or data will be converted into a QR Code which will be placed on every tricycle. If a passenger boards a tricycle, he will scan the QR Code (or special characters) and share the details with his family or friends. This way if he gets attacked or has his phone snatched, it can be traced back to the Tricycle operator and the criminals can be apprehended.
