National Ginger Association Signs MoU To Boost Exports

National Ginger Association of Nigeria NGAN, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost ginger as a commodity in the international market.

National President of the Association NGAN, Squadron Leader Nuhu B Daudu (Rtd), during the signing of the MoU between the Ginger Association of Nigeria and Traders of Africa (TOFA) in kaduna said, the partnership will ensure the take off of Ginger and give it a boost in the international market.

Adding, it will encourage Ginger production and heighten its impact on producers and subsequently boost the Nation’s Economy.

He called on ginger farmers in the Country to harness the great potential inherent in the production of the commodity.

Earlier, in her remarks, the founder of the Traders of Africa (TOFA), Mrs Uju Uzo Ojinaka said, TOFA as a pan African Hub in facilitating trade within Africa through technology, adding that the partnership would go a long way in exposing Ginger produce to international markets.

Also speaking, the State Chairman Ginger Farmers Association of Nigeria, Reverend Joseph Danboyi, said, the partnership between TOFA and the Ginger Farmers couldn’t have come at a better time, reiterating the need for unity among members which he said is the only factor that would enable growth and development.

A consultant to the association, Professor Bitrus Dawi Tarfa who is from the Department of Soil Science of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, said partnering with Tofa shows that the ginger farmers in Nigeria have hope because ginger is a very important commodity for export.

Presenting a paper on sustainability of Ginger production and processing for export, Professor Bitrus said “once as a state we are able to organize ourselves to export ginger to other countries, it will definitely increase our GDP.

“It will also increase the income of the farmers that produce the ginger and other stakeholders who are participating in the ginger value chain in Nigeria because it has been identified as a diversification of source of income in the country.”
