A third American national Suedi Murekezi has been captured by pro-Russian separatists after being arrested in Kherson.

Murekezi, 35, disappeared two months ago from the occupied city, having lived there for more than two years, according to his brother Sele Murekezi.

“We are all extremely worried for his wellbeing. He is obviously in danger,” he said.

Sele was contacted by his brother on July 7, after having not heard from him for months.

Suedi claimed to have been imprisoned in Donetsk, a city in the Russian-backed and self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, alongside Alexander Drueke and Andy Tai Ngoc Huynh, two American fighters captured by Russia last month.

According to his family, Suedi was not involved in any fighting in Ukraine but had falsely been accused of participating in anti-Russian protests. A close friend and his brother deny this.

“They are using him as a pawn for their own propaganda purposes,” said Sele.
