In less than one month to the national convention of the governing All Progressives Congress ( APC ), no fewer than 11,000 members of the party have denounced thier membership of the party in Gombe state.
The said members of the party had defected to the opposition party; People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Funakaye Local Government Area of the state.
While speaking at the reception organised for the defectors, a PDP chieftain, Abubakar Abubakar, welcome them, saying that they would enjoyed fear treatment as they joined the party.
” The issues you faced in APC would not occur in PDP,” he said.
According to Abubakar, he noted that the defectors joined the PDP on account of their neglect by the APC after working for its victory in the 2019 election.
While alleging that the governor had not carried along politicians who were instrumental to his victory. ” “I was once an APC card-carrying member but I deserted it due to lack of organisation and non-performance of the state Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.”
Though, the APC has mocked the defectors, saying they defected because they felt they could not secure tickets in 2023.
Reacting to the defection, Gombe APC Publicity Relations Officer, Moses Kyari, said the defectors dumped the party for personal reasons.
Also among those who had left the party in the recent time is the member representing Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe state in the House of Representatives, Yaya Tongo.
In his letter of resignation which was addressed to the party chairman, Tongo ward, dated December 1, 2021 was signed on January 22, 2022, alleged that the party has been hijacked by yet-to-be mentioned persons in the state, being one of the reasons for leaving the party.
The lawmaker also cited infractions, including his exclusion from the recently held congresses and exclusion of financial members of the party was staged by a “certain gang”, adding that it was detrimental to the development of the APC.
