9,580 Children Get Free Malaria Treatment in Adamawa

No fewer than 9,580  children under 3-59 months are billed to get free malaria drugs in Adamawa State.
The Adamawa State government through the ministry of health with the support of World Health Organization (WHO),Global Fund and (SMEP) State Malaria elimination program has flag-off the campaign of the distribution of malaria drugs  worth 1billion naira in their effort to ensure zero death of children via malaria in the state.
Governor Ahmedu Umaru Fintiri who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief Crowder Seth attested that Children below age 5 remain  vulnerable to malaria.
He appreciated the key partners W H O, Global fund and the National Malaria Elimination program for investing and supporting the fight against malaria in the state.
The commissioner for health Prof Isah, in his address attested that malaria is a killer disease therefore mother’s should take seriously the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention   (SMC) to protect their children as 9,580 children from 03-59 months  are targeted to receive free drugs.
The commissioner for health added that the drugs will be distributed house to house all over the 21 local government areas of the state for 5 days monthly in the  next 4 months.
Lending his voice, World Health Organization coordinator  Pham Friday Iyobosa while speaking stressed on the effect of malaria on little children as he was represented by the acting coordinator Pham Emmanuel Katukwa stating that  numerous children deaths recorded were basically caused by malaria.
Meanwhile the Adamawa state malaria elimination program coordinator Isaac Kadala representing the national Coordinator on malaria  elimination programme pointed out that this season breeds mosquitoes.
Executive chairman Adamawa state primary healthcare board in his  remark appreciated the corporate bodies that put together the malaria elevation program stating that it is timely.
He also urged mother’s to readily avail their kids for the drugs for the safety of their kids.
The district Head,Hakimi Jimeta represented by Mai Jamila Damilu appreciated the government for the kind gesture.
He also warned that every community head must allow the drugs to get to every household for free. Some of the beneficiaries also thanked the government and all it’s partners for the kind gesture stating that the drugs will go a long way in  saving their children.
