The Auditor General of the Federation, Mr Kanyitor Shaakaa Chira, has pledged to restore the glory of the Office of AGF, despite all the challenges associated with the Office.
Mr Kanyitor made this pledge in Jalingo, when he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas.
The AGF who was led into the Exco chamber of Taraba State Government House by the Gara of Donga, His Majesty, Amb Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura, Gargbanyi II and other important personalities, appreciated the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy to serve in the office.
He maintained that there are a lot of herculean tasks associated with the office but he would embrace harmonious working relationships, fairness, hard work and Unity of purpose devoid of sentiment and other considerations to succeed on the job.
“While I acknowledge that the starting point of my job as Auditor-General of the Federation is not an easy one, I want to assure you, Your Excellency, that I am ready to confront all the challenges to make Taraba State proud.
“I want to appeal to you to continue to offer me your fatherly advice and criticise me when I am not doing the right things. I must not fail and Taraba State must not fail,” he emphasized.
Mr Kanyitor noted that though his first constituency is Taraba State, his lager constituency is now Nigeria, as such, he would discharge his responsibility effectively without fear of favour regardless of who is involved.
He disclosed that on assumption of office a few months ago, he set up machineries to work towards ensuring that he clear arrears of Audit report for 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively.
While soliciting for prayers from opinion leaders, women and the entire people of Taraba State to enable him succeed, Mr Kanyitor lauded the support he got from all stakeholders of the state especially from Gara of Donga, His Majesty, Amb Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura, Gargbanyi II and the three Senators of the state who stood by him during his screening at the green chamber, and prayed God to bless them abundantly.
Responding, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding one of the Taraba sons worthy to serve in such a position.
The governor who expressed confidence in the ability of the Auditor-General to deliver on the job noted that Taraba sons and daughters have never gone to fail and so he would not fail as well.
While lauding the decision of the AGF to come home and identify with his people, the governor advised him never to forget his home as he continues to serve in the office. He encouraged him to set his mission straight so that it would guide him to fulfilment.
“I want to say that your appointment is a result of your hard work and your hard work will continue to work for you. This should be a source of encouragement to other people, that anybody can make it through hard work regardless of where he comes from.
“I encourage you to continue to work hard so that you will make our dear State proud. We shall continue to involve you in the scheme of affairs in the state so that you will have the opportunity to make your input here in the state and there at the national level,” the governor stated.
