About 400 indigenes of Benue State studying at the University of Jos in Plateau State have been evacuated by the state government following the unrest in the capital city that prompted the imposition of curfew by Plateau state Government.
The students who were conveyed in 25 buses arrived Makurdi the Benue state at about 12 mid night of Thursday, were escorted by heavily armed security personnel to forestall any breach on their way home.
The Commissioner of Education in Benue state, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar while receiving the students expressed appreciation to God for their safety and safe return to the State.
The commissioner who described Governor Samuel Ortom as a responsive leader, noted that he places high premium on the safety of the Benue citizens, emphasizing that the Governor had called several times within the period of their journey to ascertain the students were evacuated safely.
Professor Ityavyar assured the students that Governor Ortom led administration would continue to prioritize the safety of the citizens, irrespective of their religious and political creeds.
Reacting, the President, National Union of Benue State students (NUBESS), Comrade Harmony Ogah, said the students would ever remain grateful to Governor Samuel Ortom for always answering the distress calls of the students at all times.
He thanked the state government for making available monetary incentives to them to aid their movement back to their various homes.
It will be recall that a couple of days back, some travellers were allegedly killed in Jos the Plateau state capital with mounting tension thereby promoting the state government to impose a curfew in some local government councils to forestall breakdown of law and order.
