A body under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Benue State for Good Governance has said that by coming to the aid of the flood victims in the State through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is one of the many examples of President Muhammadu Buhari’s disposition to address issues that affects the common man and woman in the country.
“It is no surprise that Mr President, through the relevant agencies, is committed to cushioning the effect of the disaster on the people. Benue state happens to be at the forefront of states that have benefited from the commendable leadership initiative that has been impactful on the victims of flooding.”
The group notes with satisfaction that NEMA has also been on ground and ensuring the need is done to mitigate the effect of the flooding in the state.
“The presidential intervention and relief provided to the people through NEMA gives them renewed hope and faith in Nigeria. The Coalition therefore, appreciates the effort of the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, who undertook an on – the – spot assessment of the situation in Benue state, like other states in the country that experienced flooding.”
In a statement in Makurdi signed by the Convener, Paul Gajir and Secretary, Apeh Onuh, the group noted that, in the case of Benue state, the Director General empathized with the people over the flood disaster and ensured the distribution of relief materials was timely amidst efforts to ensure that life returns to normalcy in the affected communities.
“May we also bring to the attention of Mr President the commendable role of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. Her concern for flood victims in the state and her role in joining other actors to ensure relief gets to victims is a proof of her productiveness in discharging her mandate.”
According to the group, NEMA has lived up to expectations in disaster management in the country, adding that its Director General has entrenched a regime of transparency and accountability which is in line with the strategic focus of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Mr Gajir emphasized that such act of openness has reinforced the disposition of President Buhari in ensuring that government business must be in the best interest of the country and not a select few which the Coalition is pleased with the management of the flood disaster in Benue state.
“We wish to commend Mr President on his choice of leadership of MEMA. This implies that leaders burning with a passion for creating a difference in the lives of the citizenry are at the core of sustainable growth and development. The NEMA Director General has justified the confidence reposed in him by rejigging the operations of the Agency, towards an effective disaster management regime in the country.”
The coalition assured that its commitment to the sustained policy initiatives of the Buhari administration remains unflinching, pledging to continue to support the laudable initiatives geared towards sustainable growth and development in the country.
It also commended the courage and passion towards a better Nigeria, stating that the leadership stride of the administration in the country has elicited hope in citizenry.
