The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Dr Titus Zam of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Benue North West senatorial district election having polled 143,151 votes to defeat governor Samuel Ortom of the People’s Democratic Party and many other candidates.
Governor Ortom who reacted through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Terver Akase, quotes his principal as advising members of the public to remain calm and law abiding.
Dr was former chairman of Gwer West local government council and the immediate past Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under governor Ortom administration.
Declaring the result in Makurdi, the Chief Returning Officer of INEC, Professor Rufus Shaato said, Zam of the APC polled 143, 151 votes as against Samuel Ortom of the PDP with 106,882 votes to place second in the race.
He disclosed that Michael Gbilla of Labour Party, polled 51,950 votes with Francis Akor of NNPP with 1,443; Orhii Tertsegha of APGA scoring 906; and Celestine Orbunde of ADC polling 914 votes among others.
Reacting to the victory, Dr Titus Zam attributed Ortom’s defeat to bad governance he gave to the Benue people in the past eight years of rule.
Zam who noted that APC is most likely to win the governorship seat in the forthcoming election in the state, called on Benue people to keep faith with APC to provide respite to them.
He promised to work with other stakeholders so as to provide the needed dividends of democracy as soon as he takes oath of office in Abuja.
According to him, with the current awareness of the people, any elected representative that fails to perform will be shown the way out by the electorates.
In the Benue south senatorial districts, Comrade Abba Moro of the PDP defeated Daniel Onje of the All Progressives Congress to return to the red Chambers for the second time.
INEC also declared Emmanuel Udende of APC as the winner of Benue North East senatorial election, beating incumbent senator Gabriel Suswam of the PDP.
Emmanuel Udende of the APC who is the immediate past member of the House of Representatives for Katsina – Aka/Logo and Ukum federal constituency for two terms.
Similarly, Dickson Tarkighir of the APC was akso declared the winner of Makurdi/Guma federal constituency having polled 49,111 votes to defeat incumbent Benjamin Mzondo of the PDP with 34,803 votes.
