The business community in Kaduna state has lauded Governor Nasir El-rufai’s efforts in facilitating the growth of business through provision of infrastructure, formulation and implementation of appropriate policies.

The President, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture ( KADCCIMA ), Suleiman Aliyu stated this in his welcome address at the opening of the 43rd edition of the Kaduna trade fair at the weekend.

Though, in his speech, Aliyu disclosed that there are many of their unfortunate members who are suffering from the knock-on effects of the implementation of these policies.

The President said, this is in addition to the pervasive damages occasioned by the global Pandemic, just as he further explained that some of the affected member companies are clearly disadvantaged, displaced and in some cases even dispossessed.

“We therefore passionately call upon the government to consider some form of urgent palliative measures to help these unfortunate citizens,” he added.

The theme of the ‘Trade Fair’; Re-Strategizing Nigeria’s Economy for Global Competitiveness’, according to the KADCCIMA President is anchored on the need to focus attention on the efforts of the Nigerian Government in revamping the dwindling fortunes of the economy in a way that it will be in good position to compete favourably with its peers in the world.

“As businesses gradually come to terms with the norm brought about by Covid-19, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce found it compelling to positively respond to the clarion call of the Federal Government by offering the Business Community and MDAs a platform to reflect, exchange views, synergize and above all strategize on the best way forward to diversify and strengthen our economy
particularly in the light of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement and the combined effect of our domestic fiscal and exchange rate policies.

“It is worthy of mention that the attendance of this year’s edition of the Trade Fair by International exhibitors is still reasonable though fairly low compared to yesteryears and this is due to Covid-19 travel restrictions and advisories coupled with the unfortunate incidences of banditry. Nevertheless, as many as 30 companies from different Countries are in attendance.

“There comes a time for milestone decision to be taken
and it is our considered opinion that the present circumstance is one of such. As a matter of fact and on account of the nationwide attendance of our Trade Fair and the presence of International Exhibitors even during the most trying periods, we humbly
submit that the time has come for the Federal Government to declare the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex a National Edifice just in the same way the Lagos National Theatre is. The edifice will remain under the management and control of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce which holds the certificate of occupancy,” Aliyu explained.
