In an effort to reduce the out of pocket expenditure in line with Universal Health Coverage, the Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism in collaboration with Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority and other partners have sensitized stakeholders on the benefits of contributory health scheme in the state.
At the one-day sensitization workshop in Kaduna recently, the stakeholders were informed on the need for the enrolment of the informal sector in the contributory health scheme.
Recall that Gov. Nasir El-rufai established the Kaduna State Contributory Health Scheme in 2018, which was aimed at providing access to quality health services for the citizenry.
Speaking at the workshop, the Director of Operations; Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), Juliana Bungwon explained that there is the need for the informal sector to key into the scheme in view of its numerous benefits.
Also explaining the benefit package of the scheme, Bungwon who represented the Director General, Aliyu Saidu said, the scheme aimed at removing financial barrier to accessing quality health care by residents, just as she said that the scheme is such that the pocket expenditure is totally removed so that there will be no impediment to accessing health care.
Bungwon therefore urged the informal sector to make use of the available opportunity to enroll themselves and support the scheme for its success in the state.
Speaking on the challenges of the scheme, Suleiman Mustapha, Ag. Head Admin and Finance said, the contributory health scheme is currently witnessing low enrolment especially from the informal sector.
Mustapha also said that inadequate drugs in some facilities is one of the obstacles the scheme faced earlier. Though, he further explained that such challenges have been addressed.
