Farmers To Recieve Support From Sokoto Government To Enhance Productivities

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu says farmers will continue to receive support from the government to increase yields for consumption and revenue generation.

The governor was speaking this Saturday at Unguwar Dikko, Kalgo Local Government in an interaction with water-melon farmers who are exporting the commodity to southern part of the country.

He expressed delight about bumper harvest recorded pledging to provide farmers with necessary materials and input including loan assistance.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended the farmers for creating employment opportunity among youths whom he advised to embrace farming as main occupation.

Spokesman of the farmers and large scale cultivator of water-melon, locally known as “Kankana or Guna”, Alhaji Haruna Aliyu Hirishi told the governor that, this year witnessed bumper harvest marketed at Kalgo and neighbouring local government areas.

Alhaji Haruna Aliyu said he has engaged several youths in the area involved in watering the plant, urging the state government to provide more marketing outlets as well as processing factory to prevent waste.

The governor also inspected an open well and non-functional borehole at Unguwar Dikko village during which he directed the ministry of water resources to rehabilitate the borehole for immediate water supply to the community.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu acknowledged the technical skill of a pupil, Muhammad Gide serving as a mechanic apprentice whom he gave financial support.

The village head of Unguwar Dikko, Dikko Umaru thanked the Governor for his benevolence and compassion to the people.

Elsewhere, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Deputy Governor of Niger State, Alh. Ahmed Muhammad Getso joined friends and well-wishers, to the wedding fatiha of Zainab Muhammad Utono and Zaidu Muhammad Ka’oje and that of Capt. Ibrahim Ahmad Tijjani with Dr. Nana Salihu which took place at the residence of Dr. Shehu Salihu Utono Gesse Phase I Birnin Kebbi which attracted one hundred thousand naira each as dowry.
