According to the Council, the appointments followed the recommendations of the Joint Senate/Council Selection Board after a rigorous screening process.
Prof. Adamu, who currently serves as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, hails from Gurbi in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State. A seasoned academic and administrator, Adamu joined UDUS in 1989 as Graduate Assistant and rose to become a Professor of Parasitology in 2005. He has held several key positions including Examinations Officer, Head of Department, Director of Matriculation Studies, and Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara.
Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Engr. Aminu Sani Isa, said the new Vice Chancellor brings “a wealth of experience, proven leadership capacity and a strong record of service in academia and public administration.”
Prof. Adamu will take over from the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.G. Abubakar, whose tenure ends on February 10, 2026.
In a similar development, the Council named Dr. Shaibu Adona Sadiku as the new University Librarian. Born in 1969 in Ogaminana, Kogi State, Dr. Sadiku holds degrees from Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and the University of Ilorin. He joined UDUS in 2008 and has since served in various strategic library positions, rising to Principal Librarian.
Also appointed was Qs. Agwari Musa Jafaru as Director, Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance. Born in 1985, Jafaru is a graduate of the Federal University of Technology Minna and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. “The Council is confident that the newly appointed officers will strengthen the University’s administrative and academic systems,” Isa added in the signed statement.
