Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has said that he is not in support of the creation of Regional Security outfits, just as that of the Southern and Western parts of the country.
The Governor disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists at the Presidential Lodge Jalingo, the state capital.
He said he is fully in support of the creation of State Police, noting that most countries, have Regional, State and Local Police who take over all security issues and the Army never come into such issues.
Commenting on the security challenges in the state, Ishaku said that it was not easy for him to bring back peace in the trouble places when he assumed office in 2015.
He reiterated his agitation on the creation of State Police, adding that if that is done, he will create the Local Police.
The Govenror described the inability of the Military to flush out insurgency especially in the North-East as a disgrace.
“If Nigerian Army can go to other countries and flush out insurgencies, why not in Nigeria, especially in the North – East.
Nigeria is sliding to a failed state, yes of cause Nigeria is sliding. For now we have summanted evil days, not as it use to be from 2016. The issue of insecurity is all over the country. It is a bad news for me on the killings in Bali, Takum, Gassol and other places in the state”.
According to Ishaku, Tiv people killed Fulanis in Benue State recently and the Fulanis in Taraba State took revenge by killing 18 People along Bali – Takum Road.
“The recent crises in Bali between Tiv and Fulanis started from Benue State, particularly in Dogon Gawa, Katsina Ala Local Government”
He said, mostly such happenings are in extreme villages and that before the security Men could reach, the damages have been done, adding that a lot of people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Govenror pointed out that rumours contribute to the excalation of some of the Crisis.
“Two Fulanis were traveling on a motorcycle and they had an accident and died, but rumour were spread that Tiv people have killed or attacked the Fulanis and trouble started; Ishaku said.
On cross carpeting of Governors from the People’s Democratic Party PDP to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Ishaku expressed no worry, saying that it is their personal decision.
“Well, those leaving the PDP are taking a bad decisions. If the country is in mess, let us find solutions, because decamping to APC is not the solution, let us come together and make our country great and not cross carpeting. Let’s make our country suitable for us; The governor adviced.
