Jubilation as Alia Emerges Governor In Benue

It was a jubilation galore as people took to the streets of Makurdi the state capital following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission that Revd Fr Hycinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress has won the 2023 Governorship race in Benue state.

Chief Returning Officer, Prof Farouk Kuta at the ceremony in Makurdi, disclosed that Alia scored 473,933 votes to beat Titus Uba of the People’s Democratic Party with 233,913 votes to come second.

Professor Kuta also said Herman Hembe of the Labour Party scored 41,841 votes with the ADC candidate polling 2, 516 votes respectively.

According to Professor Kuta, the Governorship and House of assembly election in Kwande local Government area which was postponed due to a mixed up election will be held tomorrow March 21 and commended Benue people for their support that led to a hitch free polls.

Reacting to the result, the State Secretary of APC, Mr Paul Biam commended Benue people for voting for the party, assuring that they will not be disappointed when governor elect, Fr Alia assumed duty.

Motorcycle riders, supporters blocked the Zone 4 police station, Wurukum roundabout carrying leaves, palm fronts and chanting slogans that PDP is dead.

The motorcade later drove to the Judges quarters residence of Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, senator George Akume to present the governor – elect to him.
