Agency of the Kaduna state government; Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), has disclosed that no fewer than 124,858 poor and vulnerable people are currently receiving free basic healthcare services in the state.

The Director-General of the agency, Abubakar Hassan, made this known during a two-day media roundtable funded by ‘Save the Children Nigeria’ held in Zaria.

The agency also called for the enactment of a law that will ensure that couples are enrolled in health insurance as a pre-qualification for marriage.

He said medical checkups are not only advised before marriage, but enrolling in a health insurance scheme will help to guarantee blissful union and avoid unwanted, unneeded health, stress and problems later in marriage.

While speaking, the DG also explained that it will be a wonderful thing for Kaduna State Government to enact a law that will ensure that couples are enrolled in a health insurance scheme before qualifying for marriage.

He did say, “79,329 were accessing the basic minimum package of health services as defined by the National Health Insurance Scheme, while 45,529 were enrolled under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund”.
