Nasarawa state government has donated 25 Sport Utility Vehicles SUVs, cars to 25 First-Class traditional rulers in the state. The vehicles were part of the contribution of the Association Of Local Governments Of Nigeria ALGON, Nasarawa state chapter to the monarchs
Governor Abdullahi Sule who performed the distribution ceremony at the state government house said the gesture was aimed at providing functioner mobility to enable them serve the state better.
He said that the traditional rulers deserve support from the government just the way they have stood by the government towards peace and unity since assumption of his administration in the state.
He called on the traditional rulers to redouble their efforts towards working closely with security agencies especially intelligence gatherings and regularly interface with their subjects at the grassroots as part of measures towards stemming the tide of insecurity in the state.
“We recently procured vehicles for the magistrate and restored full salary for state civil servants and pensioners despite the economic difficulties we are going through. It will be a de-service to the state and traditional institutions if a vehicle of a traditional ruler breaks down on the way despite their roles in the development of the state,” the governor added.
The governor however applauded the traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders for their support toward ensuring peace in the state.
Aminu Maifata, the chairman Lafia Local Government Area, who doubles as ALGON Chairman said the vehicles were procured by the various LGAs.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, Sidi Bage, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs expressed gratitude to the state government and Chairmen for the gesture.
Sidi, said as traditional rulers, they would continue to do their best to support government peace initiatives in their respective domain.
Meanwhile Dogo Shammah the Commissioner of information has flagged off activities to mark governor Sule’s two years in office.
Announcing the activities in a press conference in Jalingo the Commissioner said the governor will tour the 13 local governments of the state from Wednesday beginning with Nasarawa Toto local government.
He explained that the governor will Commission the projects he has executed within two years of his administration.
