Nasrul-lahi-Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) Kaduna state Branch, has called for the establishment of Zakkat institution in Nigeria as a panacea for poverty reduction in the country.
The Islamic society on Sunday urged the Federal Government of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders to consider the establishment of the institution as a means to strengthen the nation’s economy.
Speaking during the 2022 NASFAT Zakkat exercise in Kaduna, the Guest Speaker, Dr. Luqman Salati, explained that the nation’s weak economy is the bane of poverty and illiteracy in the country.
On the benefit of Zakkat distribution to the society, Salati further explained that the distribution of Zakkat encourages social justice, security and harmony in the society.
“The only way to completely eradicate poverty in Nigeria is to take the issue of Zakkat serious. No doubt that poverty will definitely reduce with proper Zakkat distribution mechanism in the country,” Salati emphasised.
He therefore called on NASFAT to set up an evaluation machinery with the responsibility to monitor the proper utilization and progress of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of NASFAT Kaduna Branch, Alh. AbdulGaniy Ajao said that Zakkat purifies one’s wealth and promotes peace and prosperity.
He however appealed to the beneficiaries of the Zakkat to properly make use of the empowerment equipment received from NASFAT for their future benefit and the benefit of the society at large.
Parts of the empowerment equipment include: 8 Chest Freezers, 2 Sewing Machines, 4 Grinding Machines, 1 Car Wash Machine, Food stuff, among other items.
Our reporter who was at the NASFAT Zakkat exercise reported that 36 people benefitted from the scheme.
