NDLEA Arrests 365 Drug Suspects, Convicts 174 In Adamawa

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has successfully trapped 365 suspects with illicit drugs in Adamawa State in 2023.

This was disclosed on Monday in Yola at the state command. The command seized 1,845.074 kilograms of different types of drugs from the suspects.

The NDLEA State Commander, Agboalu Samson did a review of the activities of his office at a press briefing, and said the total sum of N821,270, was seized from the suspects.

“Monetary exhibit forfeited to the Federal Government stands at N821,270 only,” the NDLEA commander said.

He disclosed that cannabis sativa, tramadol, diazepam, Rohypnol, methamphetamine (ice) and cough syrup were the most prosecuted drugs in the year under review.

While speaking to the press, he noted that the prosecution and legal services of the state command secured the final forfeiture of three motor vehicles and one motorcycle.

Adamawa NDLEA announced that comparatively, the operational efforts of the command in 2022 and 2023 yielded mixed results.

He explained, “There was a decrease in arrests by 25% (457 suspects in 2022 compared to 365 in 2023) while in terms of seizures, there is a 33% increase (1,242.182kg seizures in 2022 compared to 1,845.070 kg in 2023).”

The State Commander disclosed that NDLEA in curtailing illicit drug dealings in the state, the Command had deployed drug intelligence personnel to offices newly established in each of the 21 LGAs of the state.
