The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Nasarawa State has extended the mandatory national service of 40 corps members for absconding from their places of primary assignments.
Abdullahi Jikamshi, the NYSC Coordinator for the state, made this known at the passing-out ceremony of 2021 batch-A-Stream-11 of the corps members on in Lafia.
According to him, the affected corps members failed to internalise the spirit and discipline of the scheme and absconded from their duty posts.
Mr Jikamshi said that a total of 1,853 corps members who served the nation meritoriously in the state would be presented their certificates of national service.
The NYSC coordinator also announced that three corps members of the batch-A-stream-11 died during the service year.
He prayed God to repose the souls of the deceased corps members and comfort their families adding that, ”They have paid the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.”
Mr Jikamshi expressed gratitude to the state government, state council of traditional rulers and the people for their continued support to ensure the safety and success of the corps members in all their activities.
“NYSC remains steadfast towards ensuring that the youths are availed quality education which is why it always deploys corps members to public and private schools in towns and remote areas.
“We also intervene in the areas of health, sanitation and skills acquisition to better the lives of members and the public,” he added.
He therefore congratulated the outgoing corps members and wished them well in their future endeavours.
On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, lauded the management of NYSC and corps members for their contributions to the development of the state.

The governor represented by Lucky Isaac-Yargwa, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, lauded them for their patriotism, discipline and commitment to national service.
“I’m aware that many of you served in public health facilities, public and private schools and in addition to your primary assignments you undertook programmes and projects aimed at uplifting the quality of lives of our people.
“I wish to express my appreciation for the free medical interventions you provided in several communities under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.
“Your programmes are aimed at complementing our efforts towards ensuring that all our people have access to basic amenities,” Mr Sule added.
The governor further promised to continue to support the laudable programmes and activities of the NYSC scheme in the state.
