Ortom Sympathizes as 3 Benue Legislators Survive Crash During PDP Governorship Campaign Rally

Governor Samuel Ortom has consoled victims as the governorship campaign convoy of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state was said to have crashed at Utonkon community in Ado Local Government Area where three assembly members were injured in the process.

An eye witness account said, members of the state assembly who escaped death by the whiskers but sustained injuries were those representing Kwande West State Constituency, Mr Sugh Abanyi, that of Gwer East, Geoffrey Agbatse and William Ortyom of Guma state constituency.

Our sources said the accident involved four vehicles including a bus, Hilux van and two Jeeps, even as all the victims were said to have been taken to a hospital in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado local government area for treatment.

Governor Ortom who described the accident as unfortunate expressed appreciation to God that it was not fatal and there was no casualty recorded.

According to Nathaniel Ikyur, the Chief Press Secretary, Governor Ortom spoke shortly after he visited the General Hospital, Igumale where the victims were being treated, directed that they be moved to Otukpo and Makurdi for greater medical attention.

Mr. Ikyur, stated that the governor used the moment to caution all drivers on the campaign train to exercise caution while moving in convoy.

It will be recalled that the PDP governorship campaign rally which was flagged off last week has so far toured the fourteen local government councils in Benue North East and West while Oju, Obi and Oturkpo in Benue South started yesterday.

The campaign train which spent the night in Oturkpo yesterday, is billed for Ado, Opkopkwu and Ogbadibo today and will round up its activities with the visit to Ohimini, Apa and Agatu tomorrow, Saturday.
