No fewer than 6,000 rural dwellers have benefitted from the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Health Initiative in Nigeria.
The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Health Initiative on its Nationwide health outreach for rural dwellers has reached out to over 600 persons in Bole Community, Yola-South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The state coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur in his address stated that over 600 people have benefited from the scheme’s medical outreach in Bole III Yola-South local government area of the state.
The coordinator made this known on Monday while launching and flagging-off the medical outreach for rural dwellers. He added that the (NYSC -HIRD) program it’s a one week long outreach to benefit vulnerable people in the rural community.
According to him, the gesture is part of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers. (HIRD) programme in the state is basically for the vulnerable in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim added that the programme was aimed at mobilizing corps members to provide health intervention to the general public, especially the vulnerable in the rural communities.
He explained that the intervention programme which will last from June 21-24 include diagnosis, treatment and free distribution of glasses to those that are visually impeded and order medical consumables when the need arises and proper preventive measures that would enhance health status of the people.
The coordinator further said that NYSC also impacted positively on people of the state through Community Development Services (CDS) particularly in the areas of Education, Health and Environmental Sanitation.
He noted that several people from the rural areas suffer from various diseases and could not afford to seek medical help in hospitals due to financial constraints.
Representing the Director General NYSC Gen S Ibrahim, Mrs Pat Maidariya health initiative for rural dwellers is bringing health care delivery to the rural areas in the state.
She said it’s part of the NYSC culture yearly to bring health care to the door step of the rural dwellers that have no access to medical care.
The District Head of Yola who was represented by Wakilin Yola, Yushaua Adamu, loudly applauded the NYSC for the outstanding initiative stating that health is wealth.
According to him, the medical outreach is timely especially to the vulnerable in the Bole community.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Sani, Yerima Wakilin Gona Chikan Soro Adamawa said he gladly appreciates NYSC for the free medication stating that the outreach is timely.
He also called on the people of the community to take advantage of the free medication.
