The Nigeria Institute Of Builders (NIB) has attributed usage of sub-standard materials and patronage of quackery resulted to collapsed building of Government Secondary School Numan that claimed life of student.
Mr Charles Balami, Chairman of the institute stated this during an inspection visit to the collapsed building.
It could be recall that the collapsed on Friday kill one student identified as Harka Yinasinma.
The Chairman noted that building collapse can actually be averted if professionals builders are utilized.
He said that quackery should not be encouraged as building collapse can results to lost of lives.
Meanwhile Dr Nepolion Usman the former Research and development Secretary of the institute at the national level who is now the current HoD Building at Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, also stated that the reason for the collapse is the substandard used of building material.
Lamenting on incident the principal of the school John K Filibus stressed that the school that was initiated since 1946 by the missionary before taken over by government in 1972.
He also noted that some of the building where renovated in 2000.
“The collapsed building has been abandoned for like 15 year’s ago, reports saying that the students were sleeping in the building before it collapsed was not true”
According to him, the students was reading for Continuous Assessment test before the heavy storm as he was walking out to see the rain. He was attacked and building collapsed on him just opposite to the class he has been reading.
