Benue state Police command has arrested eighteen suspected kidnappers in Ado local government area of Benue state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene who confirmed the incident in a statement in Makurdi on Monday, said on 21st August, 2022 at about 0730hrs, information was received about suspected kidnappers who were trying to bypass police check points at Utonkon road, Ado Local Government Area.
“Police officers deployed to the area in collaboration with members of the community were able to intercept and arrest eighteen suspects all male of Ikpayongo, Gwer Local Government Area”.
The statement listed items recovered from the suspects to include; 1 AK-47 rifle and 2 magazines loaded with 30 rounds of 6.72mm live ammunition; saying investigation is ongoing.
It will be recalled that the command recently arrested some kidnappers in Makurdi and the residence they were keeping their victims for ransom demolished opposite MEGA Filling station along Oturkpo federal high way.
In a related development, the command has arrested one Ternenge Kpandegh for destroying bill boards belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party at the Wurukum area in Makurdi the state capital.
Police source said the suspect was arrested by Task Force Officers of Makurdi local government who were patrolling the area and saw him in act and accused but he gave no cogent explanation and was taken to the police station.
It was gathered that, even though the suspect was alleged to have confessed to the commission of the crime, but said it was not he devil that led him to the act.
Reacting to the development, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Bemgba Iortyom decried the incident which he said was targeted at slowing down the party’s campaigns ahead of next year’s general election.
According to Mr Iortyom, some PDP bill boards located at Wadata, GRA Makurdi and some at Oshugbudu in Agatu local government area have been destroyed by enemies of PDP.
