Benue state police command said, on 23rd January, 2023, at about 1700hours, a case of culpable homicide was reported at ‘E’ Police Division, Makurdi where a team of detectives were deployed immediately.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Sewuese Anene, in a statement, said preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased, Fanen Yange, 10 years old of International Market Area, Makurdi was alleged beaten by his step mother; Mrs. Upev for stealing a piece of meat from the pot.
It was learnt that the deceased was during the early hours of the day.
However, when the victim went to sleep at night, he could not wake up as he was later confirmed dead by a doctor with his corpse deposited at Bishop Murray hospital morgue, Makurdi for autopsy.
The statement added that the suspect is in police custody and investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
