A Professor in the Kaduna state University (KASU), Department of Crop Science; Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya, has accused the Kaduna Polytechnic Governing Council of infractions of Polytechnic Act.
The University Don disclosed this during a Press Conference in Kaduna on Tuesday.
He alledged that the Kaduna Polytechnic Governing Council defied the Polytechnic Act by disqualifying a candidate who applied for the post of Rector on the grounds that he is a Professor teaching in a University.
Though, Yahaya had earlier written a petition dated 20th January, 2022, asking the said federal institution to reconsider and rescind its decision in the interest of justice, fairness and the rule of law.
According to the petition, a vacance exists for the post of Rector Kaduna Polytechnic as advertised in the Daily Trust newspaper of Friday, September 3rd, 2021.
Also in the petition as gathered by Money Central newspaper, Prof. Yahaya alleged that the Registrar of the institution and the Secretary to the Council informed him that invitation for interview was not extended to him because the Governing Council has decided that a Professor in unqualified for the post of Rector and the disqualification was final and irreversible.
While addressing newsmen, the Professor of Science explained that he was excluded from the interview in a gross violation of his unalienable right.
” Out of the four candidates that rose to the rank of Chief Lecturer in Kaduna Polytechnic; three including the Acting Rector of the institution were invited for the interview, while I was deliberately excluded,” he said.
Yahaya appealed for the intervention of the Executive Governor of Kaduna state, the Emir of Zazzau, Minister of Education, Minister of Justice, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, House Committee on Tertiary Education and Services, among other stakeholders.
