As the management of Chanchangi Airlines is set to return for full operations, having been re-issued with an Air Transport License (ATL) by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Group Managing Director, Trevor Worthington, has disclosed that the return of the airline is to give effective services to its customers across the board.
The Group Managing Director also explained to MoneyCentral that in its effort, the management had earmarked four aircrafts to resume operations across the country, with optimal maintenance culture and professionals to man the services of the company as required by the NCAA.
Worthington disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Money Central, where he also said Chanchangi airlines is to kick start its operations across the northern states of the country soon, adding that maintenance and training is the answer to effective airline operations.
Chanchangi airlines which halted operations in February 2014, was again granted an ATL by the NCAA on April 22, 2021 which is expected to be valid for five years until April 22, 2026. The issuance of ATL entitles the airline to operate domestic and international scheduled and non-scheduled passenger and cargo air services.
Meanwhile, before the termination of its operations in 2014, the airline was operating flights from Kaduna, Lagos, Owerri, Abuja and Port Harcourt, using B727- 300 series .
Abidjan, Accra, Dakar , Douala and Malabo were added in 2004 as international routes granted the Airline to operate , while services from Lagos to Accra started in 2006, as gathered by MoneyCentral.
While assuring of upholding maintenance culture as stipulated by the regulatory body, the Group Managing Director also disclosed that the airline is not owing any bank debt or owing AMCON, just as he said that it is not economically profitable to run an airline business under the current economic situation with borrowed money.
The airline which was founded by late Ahmadu Chanchangi, a successful haulage businessman who died on April 2017 had owned 94 percent of the airline, with the rest owned by four other individuals; with each holding a 1.5 percent stake, as gathered by MoneyCentral.
