Ahead of the 2023 governorship elections, the People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Sokoto State, Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has vowed to industrialize the state to generate more revenue.
Ubandoma, who was the immediate past Secretary to the State Government in the state, assured that his administration, if elected, will work on how the state will sustain itself without relying on federal allocation.
He stated this at a press conference with news men in the state on his plan for the state if elected as the next governor of Sokoto State.
In Sokoto State, our internal revenue is very low and we cannot just depend on going to Abuja every month to collect stipends which in the end cannot sustain us for weeks.
He explained further that he would try to improve on the revenue but not by increasing the tax collections process or putting the burden on the citizens.
Stressing that with his experience in the private sector, we would have to diversify by investing in industries and companies. We would establish companies that will provide direct income to the government.
The industries will help us in creating direct employment for our teeming youths and contribute immensely to our internally generating revenue, that is one area my administration is looking at.
He further explained that for every policy that affects the generality of the people of Sokoto state, they will consult widely before taking major decisions, and in that consultation they will know that the majority matters adding that they will work with the majority, and with what is the best for the state at that particular time on that issue.
