Northern Group under the auspices of the Advocacy for Good Governance in Nigeria, has applauded the bravery of the Zamfara state Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle for suspending an Emir in the state over confernment of Chieftaincy title on a banditry kingpin, Ado Alero.

The group who backed the Governor for suspending the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa, for conferring a chieftaincy title on a notorious bandit explained that the Governor’s action was in order.

In a statement titled: ‘Securing the society is a collective responsibility of all and sundry’, the leader of the group, Muhammed Abdullahi, further stated that the state government was never part of such arrangement.

The group, in the statement on Tuesday, also applauded Governor Matawalle on his prompt response to the issue, especially for setting up a six-man committee chaired by Yahaya Chado Gora to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.

However, in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, the government distanced itself from all the processes and announced the suspension of the emir with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the decision to confer the title on the banditry kingpin was said to be on the pivotal role he played during a recent peace process locally arranged between the emirate and the bandits terrorising Tsafe Local Government Area.

The group therefore urged the citizens of the state to support the Matawalle led administration in the fight against banditry in the state.
