VAPP Law: FIDA Begins Intensive Sensitization in Adamawa

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Adamawa State branch in conjunction with Rule of law and Anti-Corruption, (RoLAC) has begun intensive sensitization on Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in making 16 days of activism on elimination of Gender-Based Violence and harmful practices against women and girls.

Our Correspondent reports that the groups visited traders, traditional and religious leaders for the sensitization.

In her address, Halima Shaibu, FIDA Chairperson appealed to them to educate their members on the reality of the law. Adding that the VAPP Act has since been signed into law by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.

According to her, anyone caught violating the law will not escape punishment.

Bar Hafsat Abdulahi while addressing traditional and religious leaders and their followers at district heads of Jimeta palace, appealed to all to carry the massage around their vicinity stating that the violence against women and girls should not be encouraged.

Responding to the call, Lawal Auta, Chairman Gamzaki traders association Yola North, highly commended FIDA for their selfless effort to ensure the state is free from gender based violence and molestations.

He assured that the good message would be passed on to members for them to abide and successfully preached to the trader’s.

Sarkin Yaki Jimeta, Alhaji Mohammadu Baba urged the people to embrace the law stating that it is for the betterment of the entire community. He also calls on parents to always look after their kids and to avoid allowing them to stay out late at night for their own safety.

Responding to the call, some of the traders highly applaud FIDA for the good fight against Gender Based Violence. The traders also contributed by sharing guidelines on how to reach out to people at the grass root.
