On October 20, 2025, Nigerians commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Lekki Toll Gate massacre, where soldiers from the 81st Division of the Nigerian Army fired live ammunition at unarmed #EndSARS protesters in Lagos, killing at least 12 and injuring dozens.

Thousands shared tributes on X with candles and flags, while activists held vigils to remember victims and call for accountability.

Despite a 2021 judicial panel confirming the massacre and recommending prosecutions, no officials have been charged, partial compensations remain incomplete, and promised police reforms have not advanced.
