Mr. Augustine Umahi, the junior brother to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Thursday announced his rejection of his appointment by President Muhammadu as the Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Augustine Umahi won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Ebonyi South Senatorial District held on May 28, 2022 and later relinquished it for his elder brother, Governor David Umahi after failing to win the presidential ticket of the ruling party.

Umahi’s appointment as the Secretary of the RMAFC on Wednesday was contained in a statement by the Presidency on Wednesday in which the President approved the appointment of persons as executives of some agencies of the Federal Government.

One of such appointments was that of Umahi, who was appointed as the Secretary of RMAFC for an first term of four years with effect from July 6, 2022.

However, in what took many by surprise, Augustine Umahi, announced in a statement on Thursday in Abakaliki that he was not interested in the appointment thus, declined the presidential offer.

Umahi said that while he felt humbled by the show of love, he regret to inform the President that I declined the appointment, stressing that the offer is best for job seekers, retired civil servants or anyone who loves the job

He further said; “I am also convinced that at my age and work experience, it is not in doubt that I know what I want in life. Anyone interested in the position should not hesitate to approach our indefatigable governor to do the needful.

“This is because to my knowledge, the position is still vacant,” he said.
