Katsina Court Remands 20-year-old Housewife Over Stepdaughter’s Death

A 20-year-old housewife, Lamratu Nasiru, has been remanded in Nigeria Correctional Centre, Katsina State over the death of her stepdaughter.

Lamratu was alleged to have hit the seven-month-old girl on the head with a stick during a brawl with the victim’s mother, Zabbau Nasiru.

Lamratu and Zabbau are wives of one Mallam Nasiru of Unguwar Shalele village, Matazu Local Government Area of the state.

The police added, “As a result, the baby sustained a serious injury on her head and was rushed to the General hospital, Musawa where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.”

The police told a Katsina Senior Magistrate court where the case was read on Tuesday that the incident occurred on 21, August 2022 at Unguwar Shalele village.

Zabbau reported the incident at the Divisional police headquarters, Matazu, following which Lamratu was arrested and dragged to court .

The police have slammed a charge of culpable homicide on Lamratu in accordance with section 189 of Katsina state penal code law, 2021.

The court further heard that the baby’s mother, Zabbau also allegedly sustained injuries during the brawl.
