As the Kwara state government constituted a 56.2 per cent women cabinet, a northern group under the auspices of Arewa Solidarity Group (ASG), has described Kwara as a national reference point in gender parity.

The group explained that the promotion of the rights of women and the girl child was a plus to the state.

According to the group in a statement signed by its leader, Isa Ahmed, noted that the empowerment of women and girl child in the state, would no doubt motivate and give the girl child a fair shot at life.

In the statement obtained by Money Central on Thursday, the group further explained that the empowerment of women is a record holder in gender mainstreaming in public life.

The group also applauded the Kwara state government for domesticating the Violence Against Persons (prohibition) (VAPP) Act to protect young girls and boys from sexual abuse and harassment.

“We thank the Governor in his effort towards breaking all the barriers that once stood on the path of the girl child in her journey to greatness,” the group applauded.

Also in the statement, the group urged the AbdulRasaq led administration to continue on its trajectory to make the state a freer, safer and better place for the girl child.
