Sokoto State government through the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SSHCDA) in collaboration with USAID/Break Through Action Nigeria (BA-N) today Monday, flag off one week programme on Maternal Newborn Child Health.
The programme which is the 2nd Round for 2021 is meant for pregnant women and children between the ages of 0-5.
Speaking on behalf of USAID/ Break Through Nigeria (BA-N) Sokoto State acting Coordinator, Nura Aminu urged people of the state to take advantage of the exercise and avail themselves in the collective quest towards having a healthy society for all.
On her part, UNICEF Nutrition Officer, Mrs Ngozi Mabel Chukwu congratulated Sokoto State on the implementation of the second round of maternal newborn child health week.
Giving insights into the importance of the event, the Special Adviser to governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Primary Health Care, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Umar said Sokoto gives adequate priority to people’s health hence allocating 15 percent of the State budget to health.
Chika Umar further assured that the State is ever ready to engage stakeholders on the importance of good health for all.
“The target is all pregnant women, 0- 5 years old in Sokoto State. No programme that the governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal led government will embrace that is not of any significance to the people of the State.”
Speaking on how Sokoto state government remained committed to the health of all citizenry, State Executive Secretary of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Adamu Abdullahi Romo said the week for maternal newborn child health is in line with their consistent dedication to securing the future of humanity.
According to him, since children are the future of humanity, the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is ever ready to give his best to ensure a healthy living for children and all classes of human beings in Sokoto and beyond.
Reacting on behalf of beneficiaries in Wamakko local government area, the council chairman, Hon Bello Haliru Guiwa represented by the World Development Committee Malam Bello Garapci and the Sarkin Rafin Gumbi, Malam Bala Umar appreciated the numerous contributions of the State government and development partners to the health of the people.
