The U.S Command for Africa has confirmed that a small team of troops has been sent to Nigeria.

This is an official confirmation of the presence of American forces in the West African country, since the airstrikes that were carried out on Christmas Day, on the instruction of President Donald Trump.

Trump also warned there could be more military action in future.

There were also reports that the U.S. had been conducting surveillance flights over the country.

The head of the U.S. military’s Africa Command, AFRICOM, General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, told reporters that they dispatched the team following an agreement between the two countries.

“That has led to increased collaboration between our nations to include a small US team that brings some unique capabilities from the United States,” Anderson said.

He, however, did not provide further information about the mission.
