Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, after several hours of laying siege to his residence in the Maitama District of Abuja.

It was gathered that the senator representing Imo West was arrested after security operatives broke the entrance door into his palatial home.

A video obtained by Moneycentral showed Okorocha being whisked away by security operatives in white Toyota Hiace buses.

Earlier, gunshots rent the atmosphere at the Abuja residence of the former governor over an attempt to arrest him by the operatives of the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC operatives and armed police officers had earlier on Tuesday besieged the Abuja residence of Okorocha.

Some of the former governor’s supporters later arrived at his residence and protested the presence of the security operatives.

The supporters were, however, dispersed by the security operatives, who shot severally into the air.

Meanwhile, the EFCC said its operatives stormed Okorocha’s residence in Abuja to arrest him, following the former governor’s refusal to honour invitations after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted to him by the commission.

The anti-graft agency made this known in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.
