A group under the aegis of Jemgbagh Unity Forum (JUF) comprising Gboko, Tarka and Buruku local government areas in Benue state have disowned their member, the Minister of Special Duties and International Affair, senator George Akume for denigrating governor Samuel Ortom’s administration.
Speaking in Makurdi on Friday, the leader of the group, Mr. Yandev Amaa Bai, said they found the outing of the Minister condemnable and unacceptable, noting that Jemgbagh people are not known for such despicable acts.
“Senator Akume has put the entire Jemgbagh in disrepute and we won’t tolerate it any more. Since his infamous press conference, any Jemgbagh person seen in any part of the country is considered a traitor and one who hates the progress of others”.
“Despite accepting the fact that senator Akume’s Abuja inglorious outing was akin to him fishing in familiar trouble waters, it is still inconceivable that he could descend to the depths of moral abyss by engaging in utter blackmail, backstabbing and outright name calling against governor Samuel Ortom”.
Mr. Bai pointed out that senator Akume who now mounts a moral podium to advise Ortom on the need to respect president Buhari on account of age, pointed out that during his era as governor, Akume took the then president Olusegun Obasanjo to the cleaners over some issues despite Obasanjo being far older than him.
“The maltreatment Akume meted out to his in – law and erstwhile political benefactor, senator Barnabas Gemade and some of his uncles in his native home of Tarka local government area cannot be forgotten in a hurry. He sponsored media campaigns against Gabriel Suswam and moved to deny him second term as governor of Benue state”.
The group reminded senator Akume of what they referred to as ‘terrible death’ of late Azua Ishoribo, his younger brother who was slaughtered at Wannune in Tarka with the victim’s legs tied and his body thrown into river Benue.
“Here is a man who has been shown much love by Benue people in the past but now want to demolish democracy in his state. Is it because Akume was overwhelming rejected at the polls for his 4th term bid to the senate that he resorts to a call for a state of emergency which is a call for anarchy”.?
The group therefore, advised senator Akume to be more mature in his approach to state and national issues as other states that have worse security situations than Benue have ministers who are rather cooperating with their governors to find an enduring solutions.
