The Peoples Democratic Party said, the recent negative outing of the All Progressives Congress (APC), against the Samuel Ortom administration has shown itself as an enemy of Benue state.
The PDP held that, APC’s continually holding and bandying views which target at demarketing and seeking to scuttle the attainment of strategic gains being sought by the Ortom administration was uncalled for.
Reacting to the call by APC to the Benue state house of assembly to impeach governor Samuel Ortom over alleged corruption and maladministration, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Bemgba Iortyom, noted that only recently, the opposition party targeted the Benue Television which is another of the Ortom administration’s milestones.
He said such commentaries in the media by APC was targeted to besmirch it when Benue Television had advertised that the station now airs on Channel 8 on the Free-to-Air satellite system.
“The other day, Benue APC came out condemning the calls by Governor Ortom for 13% derivation revenue allocation to Benue State from all mineral resources in the state after the governor had mounted a case for the state to be designated a mineral producing state”.
According to Mr Iortyom, APC’s position is a clear politics taken to the rock bottom of negativity where the very essence of society itself is put to jeopardy in the quest by a group to usurp access to power.
“To APC, winning power in Benue State in 2023 general elections is a matter of hook or crook as can be seen in the manner of it approach to the processes leading up to the election”.
“We call on Benue people to beware of this same children of ‘Federal Might’ as they have once again started same with familiar dance steps targeted at usurping the popular mandate of the people”.
The PDP Publicity Secretary noted that a party like APC under which control it took President Buhari over half a year to pick cabinet members composed of recycled politicians should bow itself in shame rather than throw unfounded allegation against Ortom’s government.
Mr Iortyom pointed out that the PDP and Ortom administration are ensuring the right things are done at local councils as chairmen have so far not acted outside of the lawful powers thereby, consolidating on the achievements of their predecessors.
He assured that the legislative arms of government at that level will soon be inaugurated.
It will be recalled that the APC in Benue state has accused governor Samuel Ortom of not allowing the elected council chairmen to inaugurate the local legislators who would have been approving money before expenditures.
At a news conference in Makurdi, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC Mr Daniel Morgan Ihyomun alleged that, governor Ortom had selected what he referred to as ‘stooges’ and sworn them in as council chairmen without recourse to the constitutional provisions.
