Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has condemned the attack on the house of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, popularly known as Young Alhaji in Otukpo.

The Governor described the torching of Young Alhaji’s house by yet-to-be-identified persons as unacceptable, barbaric and anti – democracy.

In a statement by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Terver Akase, quotes the governor as tasking security operatives to fish out perpetrators of the act and warns those causing unnecessary tension on account of political differences to desist or be prepared to face the long arm of the law.

Governor Ortom sympathizes with Alhaji Abubakar and urges him not to be discouraged by the unfortunate incident.

It will be recalled that arsonists suspected to be sponsored by some APC Hench men out to impose their political decision on the party were challenged by Young Alhaji which is not going down well in the party.

It was learnt that political thugs were said to have invaded Alhaji’s residence that fateful Wednesday at about 3:00am and set the facility on fire leading to the destruction valued at N100 million.

Confirming the inferno in a telephone chat, Alhaji listed some political stalwarts including John Ochoga, Simon Shango and Jacob Gyado as those out to impose a deputy governorship candidate from Otukpo rather than APA/Agatu federal constituency whose turn is to produce a deputy governorship candidate in 2023.

According to him, he deposited a coffin in front of his house, signifying ‘death’ of the party if matters of imposition were not addressed ahead of next year’s polls.

Insisting on remaining in APC, Alhaji called on members in Benue south to remain calm and peaceful in the course of the agitation.

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Sewuese Anene to confirm the incident proved abortive as she said, “I’m in a noisy place and will call back later.”
