Sokoto Governor-elect, Aliyu Deputy, 30 Assembly Members Receive Certificates of Return

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday presented the Sokoto state APC Governor-Elect, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and his deputy, Idris Mohammad Gobir with certificates of return following their victory at the March 18, 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections conducted.

Also presented with similar certificates were the 30 State House of Assembly members elected during the polls.

However, 20 of the state lawmakers elect are of the APC while the remaining 10 are PDP.

The Sokoto state INEC Administrative Secretary and Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa presented the state lawmakers-elect with certificates of return before the watchful eyes of security heads in the state which included CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel, NSCDC Commandant, Army Garrison Commander, IPAC chairman, political party’s leaders among major stakeholders.

Also, presenting the certificates to the Governor and deputy Governor Elect, the INEC National Commissioner overseeing Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, Muhammad Sani Kalla while noting that the elections were conducted and winners have emerged, said Sokoto people had exercise their franchise and choose their leaders hence, prayed Allah to guide the victors on the right path and sustain them to discharge their responsibilities to the electorate.

”May Allah see you through regarding the tasks of administering Sokoto state and Nigeria in general.”

Kalla also commended all critical stakeholders including electorate and the various arms of security agencies.

Meanwhile, in a brief post presentation speech, the Governor-Elect, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto who dedicated the victory and certification to the people of the state also acknowledged and appreciated with gratitude the Almighty Allah describing his feat as historic and unprecedented.

Aliyu Sokoto further linked the success of his contest to the untiring, fatherly and political role of his mentor and leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko whom he described as the pillar of the victory.

The Governor-Elect also thanked INEC, security agencies and key players in the electoral process for a peaceful conduct while calling on other contestants to join hands with him to make Sokoto state great.

”It is the will of Allah that today I emerged governor of the state. Only Allah gives to and take power from whom He pleases. I thank the people of Sokoto state for their support.”
