Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, former police officer, contesting for the House of Reps, Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Kwara State has explained that he is pole position to do better as a House of Reps member at the National Assembly under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, if elected in March.
Ajia made this declaration at the formal inauguration of his campaign in Ilorin, stating that his background as an indigent Ilorin man has for a very long time cemented a bond he has with ordinary people.
“I grew up hawking on the streets of Ilorin. “I know what it means not to be able to afford daily means of sustenance having dropped out of University in year two because my parents couldn’t afford my schools fees,” he explained to the media.
Ajia faces a formidable opponent in Sherrif Shagaya, son of billionaire philanthropist, Mueenat Shagaya and strong financial ally of the current governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazak.
Shagaya is also contesting under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
But Ajia says he is undaunted by the seeming challenges.
“I believe so much in BIVAS, the new electoral device that nullifies incumbency powers and vote buying. “You can still recall what happened in Osun State.
“But I believe so much in my mission,” he said.
He says that he wants to give people of Asa/llorin West Federal Constituency a responsible and effective representation in the Green Chamber.
“Growing up in this Constituency, I have seen our mothers and fathers struggle to feed their families every day. It saddens me to see the desperation and fear in the eyes of our youth about what tomorrow holds for them,” he said.
