Barcelona have secured a bumper financial boost after striking a big £240m sponsorship deal with streaming platform Spotify.

The new deal will see Spotify become a major sponsor for the Barcelona men’s and women’s kit and include title rights for the Camp Nou, which means the famous stadium, could be renamed to Spotify.

Just months after Spotify owner Daniel Ek failed in a bid to buy Arsenal from Stan Kroenke, the streaming platform have now become the biggest sponsor of Barcelona.

Barcelona remains a big brand in football, and despite the financial woes that led to the departure of big stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Antoine Griezmann, and huge pay-cuts, LaLiga giants are continuing to attract headline commercial interest with big brands jostling sponsorship deals with the Catalan side.

VeganNation and Polkadot were named as two of the heavyweight firms hoping to work with the club.

The two companies – that operate in the cryptocurrency market – offered Barcelona the largest sponsorship package in football.

Added together, the overall worth of the sponsorships totalled more than €80million (£67m).

Barcelona have refused to have any sponsorship on their shirts until a ground-breaking move in 2006 and that was with UNICEF Charity.

In 2011 Barcelona broke with tradition to sign a deal with Qatar Foundation, which eventually became Qatar Airways, until 2017.

Also, a €55m-a-year agreement with Rakuten in 2017 will expire at the end of the current campaign.
