Benzema, Salah, De Bruyne and Haaland in Contention for 2022 Ballon d’Or

The ceremony for the 2022 Ballon d’Or award takes place today. Benzema, Salah, De Bruyne and Haaland are all shortlisted for the award, which will hold at a gala event held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris from 20:30.

Those nominated have been selected by 180 international journalists, judging on the individual merits of each player in the 2021/22 season.

Benzema, Modrić, Courtois, Vini Jr. and Casemiro each won three titles with Real Madrid last season: Champions League, LaLiga and Spanish Super Cup. Benzema scored 44 goals while finishing top scorer in all three competitions (15, 27 and 2 goals respectively). 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Modrić and Casemiro excelled in our team’s midfield.

Vini Jr. and Courtois also enjoyed a season to remember. Both played a decisive role in the final of Real Madrid’s 14th Champions League title.

The Brazilian netted the winning goal (22 for the season) while the goalkeeper was named MVP for the match. In his first season as a Real Madrid player, Rüdiger won the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup with Chelsea.

The other nominees are: Rafael Leão, Nkunku, Salah, Kimmich, Alexander-Arnold, Lewandowski, Bernardo Silva, Luis Diaz, Mahrez, Heung-Min Son, Fabinho, Maignan, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Foden, Mané, Haller, Cristiano Ronaldo, De Bruyne, Vlahovic, Van Dijk, Cancelo, Mbappé and Haaland.
