Chelsea will soon submit a new bid for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana amid talks with intermediaries, according to Fabrizio Romano.

As Thomas Tuchel previously confirmed, the Blues are still in the market for new players to strengthen their squad this summer, and Fofana is reportedly among their main targets.

French outlet Media Foot claimed that Chelsea are close to signing the 21-year-old on a deal that could reach up to €100million ((£84.5m) including bonuses.

It remains unclear whether Chelsea will really break the transfer record for a defender for Fofana, but, according to Romano, the London club will make another move in the next few days.

“Chelsea will make a new bid for Wesley Fofana,” the Italian transfer expert said on his YouTube channel.

“They want to try again, they want to push again.

“The player is tempted by Chelsea and wants to join Chelsea.

“There are intermediaries as said [before], and Chelsea are still in direct contact with the intermediaries.

“So work in progress with Chelsea [expected] to try again in the next days.”

Ideally, Fofana would join Chelsea without having to deal with the pressure of being the most expensive defender of all time.

The five-year contract extension he signed just a few months ago puts Leicester in the driving seat in the negotiations, however, and they understandably expect a high fee for a player that Brendan Rodgers would not want to lose in the first place.

On a more positive note, based on Romano’s claims, personal agreements should not be a problem in the potential transfer.
