Manchester City’s bid for an unprecedented quadruple has gone up in smoke as they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Hakim Ziyech’s strike in the 55th minute was all that separated the two sides and gave Thomas Tuchel’s side a deserved win over the unusually sluggish City at Wembley.

The winner was simple in its conception when Timo Werner found himself through on goal as he latched onto a Mason Mount through ball.

Werner could have shot himself but squared it to his teammate, who was in a much better position, and Ziyech duly tapped into an empty net.

It was a carbon copy of a goal Ziyech scored in the first half, however, that one wasn’t given due to an offside.

City have fallen in the FA Cup semi-finals for a second successive year and Chelsea’s victory will see them face either Leicester or Southampton, who play in their semi-final on Sunday
