Casemiro’s move to Manchester United became a reality on Friday with the Premier League club agreeing a €72 million transfer fee plus the possibility of an additional €13 million in various bonuses and add-ons.
The Brazilian midfielder’s move to Old Trafford might have come as a surprise to some observers but as well as presenting a new challenge, the economic benefits are quite clear.
Casemiro will be taking home more than double the wages he was earning at Real Madrid.
During the four years of his contract at United, Casemiro will earn a gross annual salary of 18.2 million pounds making him the third best paid player in the squad after Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns 25 million pounds gross and David de Gea, who is on 19.5 million gross.
That’s just under 10 million pounds which Casemiro will take home after tax – in euros, that’s equivalent to around €11.75 million.
It constitutes a substantial pay rise for the Brazilian who, in his final year with Madrid, was the tenth highest earner in the squad, earning just over €11 million gross, which in Spain, after taxes, would end up at about €5.5 million net.
Case had only renewed with Real Madrid last summer, extending his contract by four years but his salary remained the same.
He had always been among the low-to-middle income earners within the squad, with a starting salary of 3 million euros gross, when Madrid decided to recover him from Porto for €7.5 million in 2015.
